Enrollment & Eligibility

Head Start is a federally-funded national preschool program for 3 to 5 year old children at no cost to eligible families. Community Action Agency for McHenry County Head Start has center locations in Crystal Lake, Harvard and McHenry.

Families who earn at or less than 100% of the federal poverty guidelines are income eligible to receive services. Up to 10% of the program’s enrollment can be from higher income families or families experiencing emergency situations.  Families may also qualify under a categorical eligibility category, (examples include, foster children, receipt of SNAP or TANF funds, supplemental security funds, or homelessness as per the McKinney-Vento Act).

The Family Service Workers are available in the Woodstock Head Start office to assist families with eligibility questions and the application process either by appointment or walk in basis.  Children with the highest needs are placed in classrooms first.

Head Start is required to provide services to children with disabilities who must comprise 10% of the total enrollment.

Applications for enrollment are accepted throughout the calendar year for age eligible children.
